ABS Movers and Storage

The best moving advice you will ever get

If asked to describe moving in a few words, most people would say, “difficult, overwhelming, stressful…” I, myself, have described the process of moving this way—and I work as a professional mover! Before I got into this industry, though, I had not yet perfected the “art.” Most won’t, in fact. You see, most people don’t make a habit of moving if they can avoid it. Of course, there are those who are constantly on the go. So, between those who move a lot and those who move others as a profession—there must be some good, sound advice for the rest of the population looking to avoid difficulty and stress. Right?

Right.

There are many “how to” blogs and “best tips” articles out there—and they’re all good. They advise people preparing for a move to compare costs and downsize and utilize professional movers whenever possible. I agree! But, if you are preparing for a move in the near future there is one very, very important piece of advice you should take to heart and I would like to share it with you.

First, know that I work for a moving company in Toronto, ON: ABS Movers & Storage. I reside in Woodbridge and I love what I do. Essentially, I help make a chaotic transition for people moving across town or across the country into a smooth, low-stress experience. Listen, I’m not writing this article to convince you to use our services here (though I’d be so thrilled to meet you!); I’m writing to you because I have witnessed too many people handle their move the wrong way and set themselves up for undue hassle.

Now, for the best advice you will ever receive… I realize I have built this up into some mystical, dramatic climax—oops. That wasn’t my intention. Ok, here it is:

Pick the RIGHT day to move

I told you. Nothing dramatic about this. Yes, you need to plan and pack well and pad your kitchenware with soft cushiony materials and enlist the assistance of good friends and choose the right moving company and all of that—but none of that matters if you choose the wrong day to move. For some, moving is an unexpected or sudden necessity and the day is basically chosen for them. If that’s you, call ABS Movers; we specialize in all types of moves, including emergency and last-minute ones.

Here’s how you know you’ve chosen the RIGHT day to move:

  • It’s not hot outside. The most economical time to move is during the fall or winter. You need to be wary of weather conditions, of course—but if you can plan your move when the leaves are pretty or on the ground, do it.
  • Choose a weekday. Yes, this means you may have to take a day off of work. But, it will be worth it. Think about it: everyone wants to fit in their move on the weekend… It may work out for you—cost-effectively—to hire movers to help you, mid-week. Often times, companies charge a premium for weekend moves.

That’s it! That’s the best advice you’ll ever receive regarding moving: choose the RIGHT day. Give ABS Movers & Storage a call to schedule your next move today!
